3 Stars Cowabunga, Dude!
TMNT is a fun game for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans of all ages. It is based on the most recent film and has a few clips from it in a couple of cut scenes. The story is told in comic book fashion with some great artwork before each level. Gameplay is a mix of combat and tests of agility, both of which are fantastic. It reminds me of Ubisoft’s popular Assassin’s Creed title, as the jumping and climbing animations are very similar and the combat has the same fluid look with fun combinations.
While there is plenty of replay value in this game, between trying to achieve a better score on levels, unlocking collectibles, and running through challenge courses, gameplay might not be enough to keep more experienced gamers interested in more than one play-through. Boss battles are fun, but rather simple to figure out. There are a lot of great team combinations that pair up the turtles for some really entertaining moves. However, actual co-operative gameplay is absent from this title… something that might have kept it from being a hit.
Fans of TMNT will surely enjoy the humor and voice-acting in this game. Some of the conversations get a bit repetitive, but the writing is true to the series. Older gamers will certainly enjoy a next-generation romp with these old friends and kids should also have a great time with it. It’s far from a blockbuster title, but one that deserves a play-through by anyone that’s shouted “Cowabunga” in their lifetime.
5 Stars Seven year old boys’ dream game
My son, now eight, has not yet lost interest in playing this game after nearly a year. All his friends enjoy playing it when they’re over. The comments the characters make occasionally while running or climbing or whatever are cute. Since I’m not a gamer myself I can’t say much more, but I can recommend this clean, fun game to all the parents out who might be concerened about violence — it’s very mild. I’ve even seen our teenage boys playing it, although not for long. It’s a perfect young boys’ game.
2 Stars Came up WAY short
I loved some of the older TMNT games, but this one is really sad. The graphics are alright, but that’s the only good thing to say about it. There is no multiplayer or co-op of any kind, which is unforgiveable. The really sad thing about this game is the near absence of fighting! Yes, its true. You spend most of your time climbing around and navigating the level, and occasionally–VERY occasionally-you get in a fight. But the fights are seriously lame. I just can’t believe they released this game, there really isnt’ anything to it. 15 levels of basically running around and beating up the occasional batch of punks. Easy achievements if that’s important to you, but otherwise don’t waste your time–or money.
5 Stars Great TMNT game
This game is so much fun to play. I am not sure why the reviews were so low here. I almost did not buy the game but I am glad that I did because this game is hours of fun.
